What is automated on this site

This site's content is produced by an automated pipeline, in two ways. First, template-based generation: text such as player biographies and daily stat highlights is built from fixed sentence structures filled in with real, verified statistics from our data pipeline. Second, AI-assisted narrative: longer descriptive sections — pregame previews, game recaps, season and playoff-series summaries, team and record and award write-ups, and notable-performance notes — are drafted by a generative AI model (a large language model) working from that same verified data.

The rules AI-generated text must follow

The AI writing step is constrained, not open-ended. The model is given only statistics and facts already present in our verified data, and each content type has a fixed contract defining what data it may use; the model is instructed never to introduce statistics, records, or facts of its own, and its output is checked against the same contract after generation. Links inside these texts are inserted by deterministic code — the AI never writes a link. The model writes description, not opinion: no winner predictions, no invented quotes, and no speculation about injuries or anything else not in the data.

When data is missing

If the underlying statistics needed for a piece of content aren't available, that content is not generated at all — neither the templates nor the AI step fill gaps with a guess or an invented placeholder. A missing section means the data wasn't there, not that something was estimated.

How you can tell

Pages that include AI-generated narrative carry a visible note (for example, "AI-generated from verified data") linking back to this page, so you always know which text class you are reading.

Why we disclose this

We believe readers should know which parts of a site are automatically generated and how. Everything described above is accurate as of this build, and this page is updated when the site's use of automation changes.
